Some of you may wonder what Pumpkin Beer is. Pumpkin beer truly defines “seasonal” in the craft beer world. Since it is such a short season, there are multiple events held at pumpkin patches and other locations, featuring the ubiquitous pumpkin flavored brews.

It is said that presidents such as Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson brewed beer from pumpkins, however, this trend has only taken hold recently as craft breweries have popped up.

How it works?

Brewers chop up the pumpkin and roast them and leave them in a mixture of milled grain and hot water until it ferments. Spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves are also added to the mix. Nowadays, brewers add the necessary ingredients: malt, yeast and hops.

Instructions

  • 1. Combine the flour, oats, sugar, salt and baking powder in a mixing bowl, and stir to combine.
  • 2. Add the remaining ingredients, and stir just until the dry ingredients are moistened.
  • 3. Pour the batter into a greased and floured loaf pan.
  • 4. Bake at 375 degrees F for 40 - 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
